Picture taken at about 23:00. Yup, this is pretty much as dark as it gets up here in the summer.

There’s a downside to that and it happens six months from now....
Meanwhile, 23.23 on the 13th of July in Gällivare, Northern Sweden, about 100 km north of the Arctic Circle:

What latitiude are you on. Here I am on 54 degrees north. This pic was at 10:15 pm, although it gets dark after that.

I’d say about 60 ° North.

I spent a year in Bodø (about the same distance north of the arctic circle), it was amazing.

Uhm.. yeah.. sort of.. Most of the winter we kinda see the sun at least once per day.. ish... sort of. But seriously, it’s not that bad here in the southern part of Norway, up north though you’ve got a month or so with no sun.
![]() 06/16/2016 at 18:51 |

That just sounds miserable. No sun.

It’s just something you get used to I guess. I can’t stand heat at all.. so I love wintertime. I mean, if it’s 32 fahreneit or warmer I’m sporting short trouser and a t-shirt..

The first time I visited my Mrs. Something-Clever-Here’s family, we ended up at the family farm in northern(really the middle) Sweden. It was the end of July.
Fuck being that far north. The sun only went below the horizon for like an hour or two. Never got really dark. I had to stuff blankets in the windows to some sleep.
I was told you get used to it. I think they lied to me.

Pretty much my latitude then I guess. You DO get used to it.. Tinted windows and/or blankies to block the sun out :P You found the secret without being told what it was :)

Does almost ever car have extra headlights as well? Like real ones, not just wanna be Hella lights like here in the US? Seems like every car had them for when it was dark out during the winter.
Are you west-ish of Ostersund?

I’d say it’s about 50/50.. I’ve got a LED bar mounted on the roof during the winter.. But I do live in an area with lots of elks/moose though.

Sassnitz on Rügen (Germany’s biggest island) in the Baltic Sea. Or Bumfuck-Nowhere, as you might see it.

Hahaha. Interesting. I had never considered Germany's islands very much. Canada, as one would guess, has bazillions of islands. No,one is really sure how many we have. Lake of the woods for example has 14,000 islands ALONE, that's just one lake. Manitoulin Island...is an island in a lake...that has 17 other lakes within it that have there own island. Treasure Island is an uninhabited island that is the largest Island in a lake in an island in a lake in the world. LOL.

I see, so you Canadians like islands.
